Underwater archaeological excavations have begun at Cape Chiroza in the Chengene Skele Bay. This year, the team of Prof. Dr. Ivan Hristov from the National Museum of History - Sofia carried out detailed studies of the seabed near the sanctuary from the 2nd-1st century BC. Hr. at Cape Chiroza, studied in 2020 and 2021 by a joint team of the National Museum of History and History - Burgas. During the current season, underwater archaeologists are concentrating their efforts in the area where a shipwreck from Kr. on the 18th. of the 19th century with a load of luxurious glassware painted with red paint.
Already in the first days of the research, several whole glass glasses and ceramic vessels from the late Hellenistic era were found.
Underwater research is traditionally organized by the Regional History Museum - Burgas, which participates with experts in the study of the finds. The financing of underwater exploration is once again the work of the Municipality of Burgas. Thanks to this, the Burgas Museum now has the largest collection of glassware from the beginning of the 19th century in Bulgaria.
