Paleontology is a science that brings us back in time, studying ancient nature and its development from hundreds of thousands and millions of years ago. It tells us about ancient animals, their evolution, and also about the origin of man.
Many of these ancient worlds, though real, look like a story.
From June 28 to June 30, Burgas became the center of paleontology in Bulgaria. The National Museum of Natural History at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the Burgas Regional Museum of History and the Municipality of Burgas are the organizers of the first of its kind scientific festival - Paleofest. This ambitious event will introduce the general public to the wonders of the paleontological science and the latest discoveries of world importance, made by Bulgarian paleontologists-with the first dinosaurs found in Bulgaria, with the ancient giants-the mastodons, with the horse and its ancient relatives-the hippine and with the most -The alarly representatives of the two -legged primates that went on the way to man.
Lecturers of the festival will be Prof. Dr. Nikolay Spasov (National Museum of Natural History at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences), Prof. Dr. Madeleine Boeme (Tubingen University, Germany), Prof. Dr. Marlena Yaneva (Geological Institute-BAS), Assoc. Dr. Latinka Hristova (NPM-BAS), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Georgi Markov (NPM-BAS), Assoc. Prof. Doch Dochev (Sofia University), Assoc. -Ban).
Together with the lectures of scientists, two paleontological exhibitions will be presented presenting the topics of the ancient fauna in our lands and the first pre-ovs, including unique, not shown to the native audience fossil samples (such as an anatomically accurate copy of the skeleton of Australopic Lucy). Especially for the young visitors to the Paleoofesta, a Paleoart workshop will be held, during which they will paint the famous predatory dinosaur bike cylator.
