Telena uta is a type of apron worn by young women in the villages of northern Karnobat area. It is made of litas wool fabric (intertwine two primary and two weft threads). On a red background with shiny threads, basic geometric shapes such as triangles and rhomboids are embroidered in zigzags. It is called "telena" because of the shiny thread resembling "tel" (en:"wire"), as "uta" derives from one of the many names for apron "futa".
Telena uta is an apron for young brides. It is put on the bride on the wedding day and she would wear it in the first years of the marriage. Bright and recognizable, it gives festive look to the costume.
