NIGHT OF THE MUSEUM IN BURGAS - MAY 14, 2011

From 17:00 until midnight all four expositions will welcome visitors free of charge. Permanent and new exhibitions, presentation of unique Bulgarian traditions in the Ethnographic complex and screening of films expected the museum’s guests!

In Archaeological exposition (Bogoridi St.21) at 17:00 – Opening of the exhibition "Luster of Eternity – a two wheeled chariot from the village of Karanovo, Nova Zagora region". Visitors will have the opportunity to see a reconstruction of one of the most luxurious antique chariot and its parallel in ancient literature. The chariot is two wheeled and with a single seat and very rich decoration, it is dated from the beginning of the 2nd century or the end of the 1st century. The chariot belonged to a very wealthy Thracian aristocrat and it has an extremely interesting design solution - elegant and unique.

Natural-History exposition (Fotinov St.30) presents the animate and inanimate nature of Burgas region.
In the museum you can see volume dry Pontic Rhododendron – a symbol of Strandzha Mountain and other representative species of the Southern Black Sea coast’s flora richness. Some of these species existed already during the Tertiary period, but can be found even today as living relics. They were contemporaries of the mastodon, hipparions and deinotherium whose fossils you can see in the museum.
The richest is the ornithological collection of RIM Burgas. Exhibited are around 200 bird species typical for the Black Sea migratory route Via Pontica. One of the most interesting exhibits is the preparation of Slender-billed Curlew (Numenius tenuirostris), one of the rarest birds in the world, which is believed to be on the verge of extinction. The lakes around Burgas are one of the very few places in Europe where the species has been observed in recent years.
The exhibition "Magical World of Stone" gives more information on the world mineral wealth and the Bulgarian mineral diversity with an emphasis on Burgas region. Only here you can see the unique calcite geodes from the shutdown Burgas ore deposits.
Everyone can find and choose a stone loaded with hope for health and good luck, magic of shared love, happiness and good mood of the boss. The collectors have the opportunity to complete their collections of earth treasures.

In the Historical exposition (Lermontov St.31) is presented the history of Burgas region during the 19th century, time of the national liberation struggles and wars.
Exhibitions:
"135 years since the April uprising in 1876, the participation of Bulgarians from Burgas region"
"Liberation of Burgas region and the contribution of Lermontov’s family in the Russo-Turkish War and the restoration of Burgas city in 1878"
Exhibited are also masterpieces of the Bulgarian Renaissance iconography and exquisite works of applied art.

Ethnographic exposition (Slavianska St.69) presets traditional Bulgarian costumes and ornaments of the nineteenth century, folk festivals and rituals preserved only in Burgas region. Under the vine tree we will weave a colorful Bulgarian rug. Every visitor will be able to give its contribution for the rug’s extension and choose own color. As a typical “sedyanka”, we will talk, learn and teach, but most important we will have some fun.[/justify]
