Early Christian church with monumental dimensions (19.5 m in length and 14 m width) was discovered during rescue archaeological research, that began in late April 2014, inside the territory of the fortress Poros on Peninsula Foros. The studies are conducted by a team from Regional Historical Museum of Burgas under the leadership of its director, Milen Nikolov. The rescue archaeological research is due to realization of upcoming infrastructure projects in the area. Until now, the archaeological studies of the basilica were funded by the landowner - "Foros Development" AD (JSC) and implemented with the logistical support of the Burgas Municipality.
The plan is of the building presents it as a three-nave basilica with fully preserved original flooring of ceramic tile in the narthex and partly - in the central nave of the church. It is made of large, well-cut stones with mud solder. The apse is constructed of solid stones, plastered with a thick layer of pink mortar. In the apse was discovered almost completely preserved reliquary chamber built into the base of the poll, which was carrying the altar table. Upon leaving the church and city perhaps in the 7th century AD, the reliquary chamber had been broken and the relics taken.
