Golden Night of Museums at the Archaeological Museum - Burgas

For another year, the Regional Museum of History - Burgas is joining the "Night of Museums" initiative. This year it will take place on May 17, Saturday, from 6 p.m. to midnight.
The archaeological exhibition will host three guest exhibitions. Two of them illustrate the significance of the Thracian cultural heritage.
The golden mask and ring from the collection of the Iskra Historical Museum in Kazanlak were discovered in the Svetitsa tomb in the Kazanlak Valley, a landmark site for Thracian antiquity. The mask is the most impressive find from the rich burial of a warrior-aristocrat belonging to the highest social classes in Thrace. The mask is the most impressive find from the rich burial of a warrior-aristocrat belonging to the highest social strata in Thrace. The tomb structure and the inventory in the mound testify to the existence of a political center from the beginning of the 5th century BC, located in this part of the territory of modern Bulgaria. Gold copies of the finds will be displayed in the Treasury Hall.

A replica of the Borovo treasure arrives from the Regional Museum of History in Ruse. The results of archaeological research in the western part of the Ruse region prove the existence of a significant tribal center in the 4th-3rd century BC of one of the Getae tribes that inhabited the area between the Ruse Lom and Yantra rivers. South of the town of Borovo, located 50 km southwest of Ruse, there are nine burial mounds, six of which have been studied. The treasure, discovered by chance, consists of a ritual set for royal writing. The five vessels are made of silver with gold plating. It is important to note that the inscriptions on them indicate that the set was a gift to a local Getae dynasty from the Odrysian ruler Kotys I (384-360 BC). The three rhytons from the treasure, with protomes of a sphinx, a horse, and a bull, are recognized as the most beautiful Thracian rhytons found to date.
A fitting place in the treasure hall is reserved for a representative exhibition from the Museum Center in Sozopol. It displays a small part of Bulgaria's largest collection of luxurious painted ceramics from the ancient settlers of Apollonia Pontica. Evidence of such local ceramic production can be found in the kilns discovered during archaeological research there.
We believe that the halls of the Archaeological Exhibition will once again be filled with visitors.
We look forward to seeing you there!

*All events at the Regional History Museum – Burgas are in support of Burgas' bid to become European Capital of Culture.
