On June 24, 2025 (Tuesday), Midsummer Day, starting at 10:30 a.m. at the Ethnographic Museum on 69 Slavyanska Street, we will weave the traditional Midsummer wreath from seventy-seven and a half herbs gathered at dawn. On this day, the Christian church celebrates the birth of St. John the Baptist. Growing up alone in a distant desert, he fed on honey and roots. The people associate his survival with his knowledge and gathering of herbs and revere their magical properties. On the "height of summer," when the sun is at its highest, young and old roll around in dewy meadows for good health, and fairies enchant them with magical herbs.
In the permanent ethnographic exhibition of the Regional Museum of History in Burgas, you can see the traditional costume of Enyova Bula from the village of Fakia. In folk tradition, a little girl must wear a bridal gown, as she is the symbolic bride of Enyo.
Many children who eagerly await this moment will take part in weaving the wreath. Anyone who believes in the magic of the sun, dew, and enchanting herbs is welcome to pass through the wreath for health and good luck!
