The first digitized objects from Aqua Calidae are now available on the Internet

In 2018 the Regional historical museum in Burgas made a serious step towards the digitization process of its collection. This became possible as part of the project "TOGETHER: Common cultural and historical heritage beyond borders", funded by the European union INTERREG IPA Cross-Border Program - Bulgaria - Turkey 2014-2020. One of the main activities included the creation of a library for the digitalized cultural objects. In this way, they are accessible simultaneously in several places without additional threats to their storage.

Specialized technology has been purchased for the digitization process - a powerful server with UPS, a modern 3D scanner and a high-end camera. For the work with them a room was repaired and turned into a professional photo-studio.

Until now, 127 objects have been digitalized and processed. Selected are some of the most attractive exhibits found in the area of ​​the ancient city of Aquae calidae with over 2000 years of history. They represent all the archaeological seasons between 1950 and 2018, as well as the various periods of life in this place - from the time of Thracians to the Ottoman domination.

The digitization system is open for entering new data and is universal for the different types of objects, and it is expected that the collections of the other departments - history, ethnography and nature will be also entered. The platform will be used to popularize discoveries, ease the administrative work of museum specialists, and develop further research.
In connection with the digitization activities, the Burgas Museum invites I.T. students to join as volunteers in the work with the 3D scanner and creating digital content for the artifacts.
