Exhibition Coppersmith’s art of Old Shumen in Burgas

On September 16th at 11:00 Opening of the exhibition "Coppersmith’s art of Old Shumen".
The exhibition of Regional museum Shumen presents the coppersmith as a craft typical for the old town of Shumen in the past 150 years. On display are boilers, pots, jugs, blue ibrits, containers for warm water to extract essential oil and others. The copper vessels have been decorated through fine filigree work with elements of flowers, birds, lace and assemblages.
Тhe coppersmith craft in Shumen developed at the end of the 18th century and reached its peak in the 19th century. A number of travelers mention Shumen’s craftsmen as “masters renowned for their workmanship throughout the whole Ottoman Empire”. Coppersmith’s work was a distinctive feature of the Bulgarians and their copper vessels were always hand-made. The exposition also includes several traditional Bulgarian folk customs, as well as some applied art pieces.
