On November 6, 2024 (Wednesday) at 12:00 PM, a Day of Ukrainian Cuisine will be held at the Ethnographic Museum (at 69 Slavyanska Street) in the city of Burgas. This event is part of the latest initiative of the Regional Historical Museum - Burgas "The Language of Cuisine: Diplomacy, History, Culture." The Burgas Museum successfully presents the cultural heritage of the Burgas region to visitors, while also making efforts to familiarize them with foreign cultural traditions. In the coming months, close and distant countries with their embassies in Sofia will share their traditional intangible cultural heritage in the field of culinary arts at the Museum's Ethno-Kitchen. The culinary demonstrations will be accompanied by various themed exhibitions, concerts, performances, fairs, and other events. These events are organized in partnership with the National Culture Institute under the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria.
We believe that this is a wonderful opportunity to get to know the traditions of different nationalities, ethnocultural and ethnoreligious communities, and for real cultural exchange. The Day of Ukrainian Cuisine in Burgas is organized thanks to the cooperation between the Regional Historical Museum – Burgas, the Embassy of Ukraine, the State Cultural Institute at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, and the Honorary Consulate of Ukraine in the city of Burgas. The event will be officially opened by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Bulgaria, H.E. Mrs. Olesya Ilashchuk, and the Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Burgas, Mr. Dimitar Karanenov. Representatives of the Burgas Regional Administration and the Municipality of Burgas have been invited.
Ukrainian cuisine is characterized by an exceptional regional diversity, but the most popular national dish is undoubtedly borscht. In 2022, Ukrainian borscht (borsch) was officially recognized by UNESCO as part of the world’s intangible cultural heritage. You will taste the delicious vegetable soup in its classic version and more iconic delights from Ukrainian cuisine – varenyky with various fillings, sweet and savory pancakes, buckwheat porridge made according to a special recipe, the favorite drink of the Zaporizhian Cossacks 'uzvar', a pumpkin dessert, and other seasonal dishes. Our guests have also prepared a rich musical program – Ukrainian songs, dances, and instrumental performances. You will meet interesting people, learn new facts, and touch upon Ukrainian folk culture. Until November 9, 2024, at the Ethnographic Museum, you have the opportunity to explore the exhibition 'Ukrainian Costumes and Traditions', which presents colorful traditional costumes and customs from different regions of Ukraine. Welcome!
