The Burgas Museum is recruiting volunteers for excavations of the Rusokastro Fortress in the summer of 2024.

The excavation of Rusokastro Fortress in 2024 is planned to start on July 1, 2024. The task of the archaeological team is to excavate the north-western fortress wall of the medieval town, with its adjacent towers. The excavations are once again funded by the Municipality of Kameno and carried out by the Regional Historical Museum - Burgas.
Due to the enormous amount of work, the archaeological team is appealing to all those interested in the excavations to support the study in 2024 by volunteering for the excavation work. The fort is largely socialised and there is excellent infrastructure in place so access by car is available.
The conditions are as follows: each volunteer must be over 18 years of age, if younger they must be accompanied. No sun hats will be allowed. It is mandatory that each volunteer brings enough water and food. No people in flip flops will be allowed on the dig - it is mandatory to wear rubber boots or other sturdy footwear. Safety gloves will be distributed on site. For people with sensitive skin - bring beach oil or milk. For people with allergies - bring anti-allergy medication, we are in nature, there are bees, wasps and other insects!
We are obliged to inform you that Rusokastro is also a favourite destination of butterflies and figs, so you should be careful where you step.
We hasten to point out that the work is heavy, so be prepared to carry stones and dig with a pickaxe.
For any questions, such as working hours and the like, you can contact Krasimira Stoyanova - archaeologist at the Burgas Museum of Archaeology and member of the research team, e-mail kstoyanowa98@gmail.com Tel. 0882 70 49 79.
