For the first time, the pilgrims will be able to view the St. John the Theologian's ampoule-reliquary, found on Foros peninsula. It will be exhibited for worship in the temple "St. Pimen Zografski ", Kraimorie, on his patron saint's day 3 November (Saturday).
This will initiate a campaign to raise funds to paint the interior of the church. It is organized by Initiative Committee, chaired by Prof. Dr. Sevdalina Tourmanova - Deputy Governor of Burgas Region.
To help the donation campaign, the Regional historical museum of Burgas organizes a presentation of the valuable exhibit. It was discovered by researchers team led by Milen Nikolov in 2014, during archaeological excavations of the only early Christian basilica in the Municipality of Burgas on the Foros peninsula on the territory of Kraimorie. The find is unique in the world. Similar are found in Ephesus, but they are made of clay while the ampoule of Foros is from lead. It dates back to the 6th century and is associated with the cult of St. John the Theologian. He was a beloved disciple of Jesus Christ who settled down at the command of his teacher at Ephesus, where he wrote the Apocalypse and ended his earthly journey. According to archaeologists, the Pilgrim of the Poros fortress has worshiped the tomb of St. John the Theologian in Ephesus, from where he brought the precious relic - an ampule of healing powder.
The ampulla-reliquary will be exhibited for worship along with a fragment of Christ's cross and the relics of the reverend Martyrs brought from Jerusalem. All donated funds on the day of the temple celebration on 3.11.2018 will be provided for the church painting campaign.
