A team of archaeologists from Regional Historical Museum Burgas renewed excavations of the fortress Poros near Kraimorie, Burgas. They are held for the fourth consecutive year by the director of RHM Burgas - Milen Nikolov and his deputy head of the project - Dorothea Gyurdzhiyska.
This summer they survey the territory east of the Roman villa on the beach in the northwestern part of the peninsula Foros. The remains of the luxury building were discovered in 2013 as part of the huge archaeological complex of Poros fortress. It includes a fortress wall, residential quarters, administrative and port buildings, Episcopal basilica and necropolis.
Already in the first days of renewed study many late-antiquity objects were found, including coins, fragments of pottery and jewellery. During this season the archaeologists hope to locate more buildings of the fortress. This will help mark the historical processes in this part of the modern municipality of Burgas.
In 2016, the archaeological studies are financed again by Foros Development AD and Municipality Burgas.
