Alexandra Lermontova
The only daughter of Col. Lermontov - Alexandra abandoned her rich and comfortable life in St. Petersburg in 1877 and joined the Russian army as a volunteer - a nurse. Military fate bound the life of this lady from a noble family with the infirmary of the 4th Army Corps legendary commander – the White General Mikhail Dmitrievich Skobelev. Seeing hundreds of dead and maimed Russians, Bulgarians and Fins, she realized the harsh reality of war and the high cost of the victory at Pleven, Shipka and Sheinovo. In Yambol and Elhovo nurse Alexandra reached the city of San Stefano, where she met with her father A. M. Lermontov once again.
In May 1879 together with the 4th Army Corps of General Skobelev, she arrived in Burgas. Here Alexandra Lermontova aided the training of medical staff, the establishment of a hospital and purchased with her own funds hospital equipment. She took part at the farewell reception of the White General Skobelev. Alexandra Lermontov died in 1903 in St. Petersburg.
