For decades, figures drawn using only straight lines or sticks have been popular in everyday life and especially on the internet. They are the basis of animations, games and much more. The roots of such drawings go back a long way; they can be found in the Middle Ages, in antiquity and even earlier. Archaeologists from Burgas have now found one such image during excavations at the medieval town of Rusokastro. A human figure has been carefully drawn on the handle of a large ceramic vessel. The figure’s arms, body and legs are clearly visible. What makes it notable is that two long, spiral-shaped strands extend from the head, most likely representing braids. According to the archaeologists, this suggests the image probably depicts a young girl. The 2025 excavations were funded by Kameno Municipality, the Ministry of Culture and the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bulgaria.
