After Dubai, the copy of the Panagyur Gold Treasure visits the Burgas Museum

The copy of the Panagyur Gold Treasure will be exhibited in the "Tresor" Hall of the Archaeological Museum in Burgas (21 Aleko Bogoridi Blvd.) from 18 May to 30 August. This is the only museum copy - a complete analogue of the original, made of pure 23 carat gold. The objects are the property of the National Historical Museum - Sofia, who kindly provided the opportunity for Burgas residents to enjoy this most exquisite and rich Thracian treasure.

The Panagyur Treasure was discovered in 1949, 2 km from Panagyurishte. It consists of 9 gold objects with a total weight of just over 6 kg - rhytons, rhyton jugs, an amphora and a phial.
Today it is believed that this treasure is from the late 4th - early 3rd century BC and belonged to a Thracian king from the tribe of the Odrysi, having participated in religious ceremonies.
The vessels have different images. A number of ancient Greek deities and heroes are represented - Hera, Athena, Aphrodite, Apollo, Artemis, Dionysus, Silenus, Nike, Heracles, Theseus, Paris, the Bacchante Eriope. There are images of winged sphinxes and Amazons.
The phiale of the treasure is decorated with African heads.
The Panagyur treasure is the most famous Thracian treasure. It has been visited in Rome, Paris, Munich, London, USA, Japan, Sweden and many others.
The exhibition is part of the program of RHM Burgas for the Night of Museums on May 18, and is organized jointly by Burgas Museum and Burgas Municipality.
