National Scientific Conference "Bulgarian Refugees in Burgas and the Region 1878 - 1945" will be held from September 27 to 29, 2017 as part of the European Heritage Days in Burgas. Organizers of the prestigious forum are the Regional historical museum and Municipality Burgas.
The conference has selected 31 scientific papers that best represent the dimensions of the migration process from 1878 to 1945. This is a topic of great importance for the history of Bulgaria and the Bulgarian people, which is updated in a specific way today. The focus of the research is on Burgas and the region, as most Bulgarian refugees (more than 30,000 families) find salvation and a new home here.
The proceedings will be presented by 33 lecturers - representatives of institutes at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, universities, museums, libraries and archive directorates from all over the country. The plenary session with the scientific readings will begin on September 28 at 10.00 in Hall 311 of the College of Tourism.
The main topics that will be discussed are the historical dynamics of refugee processes among the Bulgarians from 1878 to 1945; Burgas region - the new home of Bulgarian refugees; the role of refugees in the life of free Bulgaria - political, social and economic problems; Ethnic-demographic characteristics of the refugees.
Co-organizers and partners of the forum are Peyo Yavorov Regional Library - Burgas, University "Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov", Directorate "Regional State Archives" - Burgas and Thracian Research Institute - Sofia.
It is expected that the conference materials will be printed in a scientific book in November 2017 and will be officially presented at the end of the year.
