Some of the most beautiful Thracian treasures will be in Burgas for the Night of Museums

The treasure from Kralevo and the oldest gold in Europe from the Chalcolithic Necropolis in Varna will be in the Treasure Hall of the Archaeological Museum in Burgas for the Museum Night - May 19 (Saturday).

The Thracian treasure from the village of Kralevo, Targovishte, was discovered in 1979 in the tomb of a senior aristocrat who lived in the 3 rd century BC. After its cremation, its remains were gathered in a gilded Hydria vessel and buried in the mound with gifts of gold, silver, ceramics. The whole treasure consists of 47 gold engraving with enamel, titled, gold tiles with gryphon images, medallions with images of Heracles, earrings, hand bracelets, horse harness decorations. Various goldsmithing techniques were used - chipping, casting, granulation, etc. Perhaps the treasure was made in the goldsmith's studio of the ancient town of Messambria, today's town of Nessebar.

The second golden treasure, which can be seen in the Archaeological Museum, is in Burgas for the second consecutive summer because of the great interest and repeated inquiries of the visitors. The recognition of the oldest gold in Europe was discovered in the so-called Grave No. 36 of the Varna Chalcolithic Necropolis. According to a study in the Oxford Laboratory, the gold objects found dated from 4600-4400 BC. Interesting in Grave 36 is that no skeleton is found in it, but symbolically both purely female and purely male attributes are buried. Most likely, in this tomb complex are collected garments, ornaments and insignia of a 5-member ruler family, of which only the gold objects are 857 with a total weight of 0.789 kg.

The two exhibitions will be opened on May 19 at 6 pm at the Archaeological Museum at 21, Bogoridi Str., As part of the Bourgas Museum's program for the European initiative Night of Museums.
