On July 3, 2024 (Wednesday) from 5:30 p.m. in the Ethnographic Museum at ul. "Slavyanska" 69, the exhibition "Paftite - a universe of signs" of the Regional History Museum, Ruse, will be opened. In the hall for temporary expositions on the first floor, over thirty examples of jewelry art will be presented.
Pafts are part of traditional clothing and like everything in the system of folklore culture have their specific role and meaning. Their apparent value is determined by the metal they are made of - gold, silver, copper, brass. And their true essence – a belt that not only protects, but also tells stories about the way our ancestors perceived the world through the images on them. The heavenly bodies - sun, moon, stars, religious symbols, the mythological world tree, plants and animals from magical tales and ritual songs, temples, angels, saints or sign objects define the rich palette of messages for archetypal thought patterns. Pafts are also a sign of social status – unmarried women cannot wear this ornament, and nuns cannot wear a pair of pafts. Characteristic as belt ornaments for the entire territory of the Ottoman Empire, within the borders of the Bulgarian ethnic land, the pafts tell our own Bulgarian picture of the world and the order in it. The exhibition will visit the seaside town until October 31, 2024 and can be viewed every day from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
In addition to a delight for the eyes, the specialists from the Regional History Museum in Ruse will also prepare a delight for the palate. Ethnographer Desislava Tiholova will make a culinary demonstration of onion stew with chicken and prunes from the village of Pisanets, Rusensko. We are waiting for you on July 4, 2024 (Thursday) from 10:30 a.m. in the Etnokuhnya of the museum on ul. "Slavyanska" 69.
