On 1 November we celebrate the work of Bulgarian national enlighteners, scribes and revolutionaries. To the cultural activists and personalities with significant contribution to the rise and preservation of the nation. On 31 October 1922, a decree of the Council of Ministers proclaimed the holiday. On this occasion, the then Minister of National Education, Stoyan Omarchevsky, said, "...our first concern is to turn the gaze of our youth to all that is valuable and bright from our past and to bring them into this past so that they may draw from it cheerfulness and confidence, strength and impulse for activity and creativity."
On November 1, 2023 WE, the workers of the Regional Historical Museum Burgas, will join the activists of the Bulgarian culture from all over Bulgaria and we will come out to protest under the slogan TO SUPPORT THE BULGARIAN CULTURE!
We will close the expositions from 12:00 to 13:00 and gather in front of the State Opera Burgas.
On 1 November, with the support of the CT "Podkrepa" and NF "Kultura", we will peacefully but insistently reiterate our demands:
- To increase wages in the sector to not less than 2000 BGN and to equalize wages with those working in the "Education" branch.
- To increase the budget for culture to 1% of GDP.
- To amend the rules for competitive calls for targeted funding for cultural projects to include the salary costs of the applicant organisation's staff. Until now, such costs have been ineligible.
- Increase by 50% the Unified Cost Standard for 2024 for subsidised staff for museums, art galleries, libraries and community centres.
- A Uniform Cost Standard be introduced for the maintenance of the remaining 50 museums that are still funded as local activities.
- That funds be identified to introduce a complementary standard for the managed open spaces of museums, libraries and galleries.
- To draw up regulations to provide cultural institutes /outside the uniform cost of living standard/ with additional funds for retirement indemnities and workwear, as in the education system.
- Introduce a complementary standard for activities related to digital services and the digitisation of literary memory, for software products and platforms, as in all European cultural institutes.
- When new branches and centres are set up in the regional cultural institutes, they should be provided with additional posts.
- Decent remuneration should be provided for those working in the Bulgarian National Radio, the Bulgarian National Film Library, and the State Archives Agency.
