Open access to expositions and a free visit to the visiting exhibitions on their last day in Burgas
Over the past two decades, the European Heritage Days initiative has become one of the most important events in the cultural calendar of Europe, attracting millions of visitors to the rich cultural heritage of the continent. In September each year, countries in Europe open the doors to more or less familiar cultural landmarks by organizing different campaigns to promote heritage and search for its place in the present.
The Regional History Museum of Burgas will participate in the European-wide initiative and in 2017 with a diverse cultural program.
It will start with the national scientific conference "Bulgarian Refugees in Burgas and the Region 1878 - 1945" from 27 to 29 September, which will be held at the College of Tourism. The conference is organized by the Regional Museum of History of Burgas and the Municipality of Burgas in partnership with Regional Library "P.Yavorov" Bourgas, Thracian Research Institute, Regional State Archive Directorate - Bourgas and University "Prof. Asen Zlatarov ". On the last day of the summer season - September 30, RIM Burgas will open the doors of its expositions for free. Visitors will have the chance to see the visiting exhibitions on the last day of their stay in Burgas.
The idea of "European Heritage Days" arose in 1985 at the Second Conference of European Ministers for Architectural Heritage, organized by the Council of Europe in Granada, Spain. France's former culture minister, Jacques Lang, has proposed a successful French experiment for an open-door cultural heritage day in other countries of the continent.
Today, all 50 signatories to the European Cultural Convention are part of the initiative, raising their citizens' awareness of the cultural diversity of Europe. Over time, European Heritage Days have also become a mechanism to promote the public role and significance of cultural values that have reached us. Active participants of all ages are actively involved in the Days, paying particular attention to students and young people.
European Heritage Days are a joint initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Union. The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria is the coordinator and main organizer of the country.
