Why is there no "witch hunt" in the Orthodox world?

On June 27, Tuesday, from 6:00 p.m., in the "Georgi Baev" hall of the "Sea Casino" CC - Burgas, Prof. D.Sc. Maria Schnitter will give the public lecture on the topic: "Why there is no "witch hunt" in the Orthodox world. From the 16th century to 1820, there were over 500,000 documented murders of women accused of being witches and as such having entered into an alliance with the devil. These are only the documented cases. The executions are incredibly cruel - burning at the stake, dividing the flesh by cutting into four parts, drowning, hanging, burying alive, breaking the bones using a special wheel, etc. The process escalated tremendously in the 17th century. It is a special cultural phenomenon that this phenomenon continued for several centuries precisely in the Catholic world. As a result of the persecutions, that part of medieval Western society that carried the knowledge of folk medicine, herbal medicine, healing and naming was destroyed. And these are the women accused of witchcraft. A huge part of them were accused on the basis of denunciations by their abusers, aiming at confiscation of their property, self-mutilation, revenge, etc. At the same time, such a phenomenon does not exist in the Orthodox world. Here, "women's knowledge" and the Orthodox faith coexist peacefully. Why is it so - Prof. Schnitter, one of the best connoisseurs of Orthodox Christianity in the XV-XIX century period, will explain. Prof. Schnitter gave the lecture in Vienna, Plovdiv and Sofia. She is the first dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and History at Plovdiv University. The scientific fields in which he works are medieval studies, anthropology of religions and everyday life. He is a teacher of Bulgarian literature and culture at the University of Vienna, a lecturer at universities in Great Britain, Russia, Italy and Israel. The public lecture is organized by the Municipality of Burgas, Regional History Museum - Burgas and CC "Sea Casino" - Burgas.
