The refugee movement towards Bulgaria since the beginning of the 20th century has had a multifaceted impact on the historical development of our country and does not cease to raise various questions, some of which are still waiting for their answers. In this context, the present work, in which the main object is the study of the Eastern Thracian refugees who settled in the Burgas region in the period 1913 – 1925, is a step in overcoming the existing research gaps in this direction. Geographically, the study covers part of the territorial determinacy of the then Burgas District, encompassing the territory of the modern Burgas region. The development of the Bulgarian-Turkish relations has a special influence on the studied processes, in the specified time frame, therefore their role as a prerequisite for the emergence of the studied movements is also the subject of scientific research.
The initial chronological framework refers to the origin of the refugee issue after the end of the Second Balkan War and the conclusion of the Treaty of Constantinople between Bulgaria and Turkey on September 16/29, 1913. The signed document regulates new state borders and, accordingly, the loss of most of Eastern Thrace, which causes an increased refugee flow to Bulgarian territory.
The upper border reflects the act of signing the Ankara Agreements between Bulgaria and Turkey on October 18, 1925, which finally confirmed the territorial affiliation of Eastern Thrace to Turkey. The provisions of the treaty put an end to the Eastern Thracian question by leaving the refugees in question within the borders of the Bulgarian state.
An official presentation of the book is forthcoming, after which it will be distributed in the expositions of RHM - Burgas.
