Presentation of the results of a study of the iconographic heritage of the island of "St. Anastasia"

Back in 1911, a Bulgarian poet and public figure rescued 12 icons from the island monastery "St. Anastasia". This is Raicho Raichev Virsaviev, who prevents the export of the icons outside the country. Despite his intervention, however, more than a century later, none of the saved icons remained on the island, and so the rich icon collection of the island monastery sank into oblivion. The present study is an attempt to trace the fate of the missing icons, which are extremely important for future research of the monastery and its history. Prof. Dr. Ivan Vanev, from the Institute for Arts Research, will present the results at 4:00 p.m. on 21.02.2023. in the icon hall of the History Museum - 31 Lermontov St.
The study was carried out with the financial support of the National Fund "Culture".
