The finds from the Thracian sanctuary in Izgrev district and the excavations near Chiroza are exhibited in the Archaeological Museum

During the excavations in Izgrev district, Burgas, in close proximity to the church "St. Atanas”, in May-July 2020 a large Thracian pit sanctuary was opened. 60 cult pits dating from the 6th century BC have been studied. to the IV century BC. In the pits are placed as gifts ceramic vessels - fragmented and whole, as well as the remains of various animals. The most numerous are the bones of horses.

An entire female skeleton was found in one of the pits.

The finds are numerous - a large urn with polished decoration, a crater for mixing wine with water, fragments of painted Greek ceramics, amphorae and amphora seals and many more. etc. A bronze clothing brooch was also found.

The excavations were financed by HIT STROY K and led by Miroslav Klasnakov (RHM - Burgas) and Ilian Petrakiev (RHM Veliko Tarnovo).



In June-July 2020, a regular archaeological survey was carried out at Chiroza National Park, 1.8 km. southeast of Kraimorie. A moat and a stone wall enclosing part of the nose were found. The site dates from the II - I century BC. Stamped pottery from the town of Pergamum, Thracian and Greek pottery from this period were found.

A study of the coast of the promontory revealed spills of stones and fragments of pottery next to the beach. Underwater archeological excavations were organized immediately. They are performed by NIM-Sofia, Center for Underwater Archeology - Sozopol and RIM - Burgas. Numerous finds were found - amphorae, roof tiles, bowls, bowls, stone battle balls, a stone rod. It has been established that part of the land site is flooded by the sea, where buildings made of cut stone blocks are located.

An old shipwreck was also found in the bay near Chiroza. During the excavations, a huge amount of exquisite glass vessels made of painted embossed glass were removed - lids, cups, decanters, etc., produced probably in one of the glass workshops in Italy in the XVIII-XIX centuries. stored in the National History Museum-Sofia.

The excavations are funded by the Municipality of Burgas and are led by Prof. Ivan Hristov, Naiden Prahov, Margarita Popova and Milen Nikolov.
